Ardsley ScoutsFor 10 To 14 Year Olds

Introduction to Scouts

Scouts is the third section in Scouting, for young people aged between 10½ and 14 years. A Scout Troop consists of up to 36 young people organised into Patrols. The Troop is lead by a team of adult volunteers.

At Ardsley Scouts we run a varied programme, using a mixture of activities, challenges and games to promote personal development, self-confidence, getting on with others, teamwork, and responsibility.

Ardsley is an Air Scout Troop - we do everything that 'normal' Scouts do, plus the occasional air activity.

Scout Challenge Awards

There are nine challenge awards in Scouts leading to the Chief Scout's Gold Award, the highest Scout award. Gaining a challenge badge involves accomplishing a number of tasks on a related theme. The challenges may be physical and outdoorsy, or involve dealing with the local community or issues connected with the Scouting world.

Scout Activities

During your time Scouts you'll get a chance to try loads of new activities and learn new skills. At Ardsley Scouts we do lots of camping, including weekend camps and an annual week-long Summer Camp.

Scout Activity Badges

There are 75 activity badges available to Scouts, plus a further 6 staged activity badges which can be earned in any section. Activity badges allow Scouts to show their progress in existing pursuits, but also to try all kinds of new things and form new interests.

Joining Scouts

Young people normally join Scouts (or transfer up from Cubs) at 10 1/2 years old. We can take people as young as 10 if they have friends joining at the same time, or are mature enough to move on early from Cubs, and there is space in the Troop.

Summer Camp 2013

Each year, at the start of the summer holidays, we run a week-long camp. Last year we went to Beaudesert, a campsite in Cannock Chase, an area of outstanding natural beauty in the midlands. During the week we did various activities, including archery, crate-stacking (pictured above), climbing and geocaching. We also enjoyed days out at Warwick Castle and Alton Towers.

This year we're off to Ferny Crofts Activity Centre in the New Forest
