This is our Cubs at Diggerland in Castleford in June 2014, enjoying a very hands-on day driving mini-diggers, dumper trucks, bobcats and various JCBs. It was great fun, in spite of the weather which could have been kinder to us.
Diggerland is a fantastic day out for cubs - they have the chance to ride and drive real full-size construction machinery, under the guidance of trained staff - no driving licence required!
In May 2014 Cubs, Scouts and Explorers took part in a long-weekend camp at Walesby Forest Activity Centre in Sherwood Forest. During the weekend we enjoying larking about in the river and visited nearby Clumber Park for a spot of geocaching.
In April 2014 our Explorers took part in a residential conservation weekend in the Peak District National Park – our third time volunteering with the Park Ranger service. This time we stayed at the Marsh Farm Volunteers' Centre near Leek, and completed various conservation projects around Tittesworth Water, including clearing out and painting a bird hide, removing protectors from young trees, and building a fence around a pond.
Two teams from Ardsley took part in the Barnsley Night Challenge in March 2014. Our Explorer team were overall winners, and our Scout team came 5th. The teams had to navigate their way around a 6 mile course, in the dark, completing tasks for points at checkpoints along the route.
The Barnsley Night Challenge is an annual event organised by the Silverwood Active Support Unit. This year 18 teams from Groups all over Barnsley took part.
